Orchid Exhibition

The idea of organizing an orchid exhibition at the château of Selles sur Cher, came to us, a few years ago. Then, in 2017 we felt ready to present one as part of the tour.

So, naturaly, we turn to the Orchidium in Contres (41), who agreed to be our partner with entousiasm, particularly the idea of an exhibition over 6 months.

Both of us agreed to hold the exhibition from April 15th to October 31st. We decided to put our resources together and show our visitors, all kinds of orchids within 3 themes – each one to last around 2 months :

15th April to 30th June – Orchids with unusual scents

1st July to 30th August – Unusual forms and colors

1st Sept to 31st October – The extravagant life of orchids

There are at least 25,000 species of orchids known in the world today of which most are tropical. It is obvious, that a great deal of knowledge is needed to make them grow in our latitudes.

Tropical flowers they certainly are, but not only ; that because we have wild orchids growing in the grounds of the château. The public can see them in a small protected area, which allows visitors to admire them growing naturally.
